When it comes to building a wardrobe for formal occasions, the first thing guys need to do is assess his lifestyle. Do you need to wear a suit for work and if so how many days a week do you? Maybe you work in a more business casual setting that doesn’t require suits. You still need to dress in formal attire though like khakis and dress pants over jeans. No matter what your job or situation is there are some essentials every man needs in his wardrobe. Here is a list of the must-haves:

Slacks - One essential item is a good pair of dress slacks. Make sure they are a dark color like black or navy. A dark pair of slacks is clutch and comes in handy when you are attending an event that doesn’t require a suit, but you still need to wear something than khakis or jeans. Choose medium weight wool. It is long lasting, holds it shape well and additionally, is multi-seasonal.

Suit – There is an old saying that goes “Every man needs at least one well tailored suit”. While it may be old, it still holds true.
