Why Your Second Million is So Much Easier

You’ve heard “The first million is always the hardest.” However, I prefer “The second million is so much easier!”

It’s a more positive thought and assumes that you already made that first million. And it’s true. Your second million is so much easier.

Here’s why.

It’s true that by the time you reach for that second million, you have much valuable experience. However, the main reason that your second million is easier is because it’s “No big deal!” This is especially true if making your first million seemed like a “big deal” before you made it!

In essence, this means that your “comfort zone” is now expanded to include “making $1,000,000.” This is now “old hat, yesterday’s news” and “same ol’ same ol’.” You can yawn and say, “Been there; Done that!”

This frees the mind from the short circuits of doubt, hesitation, and lack of confidence that may have clouded your thinking on “Day One” of your $1,000,000 quest. Therefore, the thought of making a million dollars no longer intimidates, sparks uncertainty, or plunges you into self-doubt.

And the thought of anyone with a million dollars (including you) no longer fills you with awe and wonder. So the question is “when?” not “if?”

After the fact, making $1,000,000 no longer seems like a “big deal.” Almost certainly, you realize in retrospect that it was easier than it initially appeared. That’s true of most things that seem like deal” initially, but appear easy after we do them. And this suggests a way to make that first million a lot faster and more easily (if you haven’t made it already).

Assume a future point of view after you have made your first million and pretend you are looking back. This makes your first million an already accomplished fact. From this point of view, you can pretend it was ‘No big deal!”

Here’s a fun and fast exercise I designed to “cut to the chase” and look back with attitude of “No big deal!”

You’ve seen movies that do this effectively. The director compresses time and deletes details. The hero (that’s “you”) is about to embark on “Day of making $1,000,000. The scene fades to a still photograph of a newspaper headline that proclaims “___ (insert your first name) Makes First Million!”

The director compresses time. We see our hero (that would be “you”) looking prosperous and successful behind an executive desk, at the wheel of a luxury car, or lounging cruise ship. Of course, we don’t know exactly how “our hero” actually made the million. That’s deleted because it’s not important!

Here’s why.

When the mind is free of short-circuits, it finds a way. Without short-circuits to stifle creativity, interrupt momentum, and drain energy, the mind sustains forward progress, picks up speed, and gains experience at an increasing pace.
